Osteopathy -Consett – Backache Osteopathy -Consett – Backache

If you’re suffering from backache and pain or the effects of poor posture at home, at work or after pregnancy, Osteopathy offers a natural approach to treating your whole body and help you heal without the need for drugs or surgery. Derwent Osteopathy, Consett has trained osteopaths who can treat your problems.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a long-established form of medicine and is a method of low back painassessing and treating many health conditions. Osteopathy is drug-free, involves no surgery and is non-invasive. Being treated by an osteopath is one of the best solutions for back pain, especially lower back pain. This is further confirmed by The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence’s recommendation for the treatment of low back pain and sciatica is combination of manual therapy (spinal manipulation, mobilisation and massage).

While medical doctors specialise in single aspects of your health, osteopaths take a holistic approach. What this means is they focus on the whole body when looking at your symptoms rather than just the local area where the pain is showing up.

Osteopaths use physical manipulation, stretching and massage, with the aim of increasing the mobility of joints, relieving muscle tension and enhancing the blood supply to tissues. Taken together, these techniques help the body heal without the need for drugs, allowing you a quick return to normal activity.

Osteopathy uses the following techniques:

  • Articulation/mobilisation – moving your joints through their natural range of motion
  • Massage – to release and relax muscles
  • Stretching stiff joints – to improve mobility and function
  • High-velocity thrusts – short, sharp movements to the spine, which produce a clicking noise similar to cracking your knuckles

You may receive advice on self-help and exercise to aid your recovery and thereby prevent symptoms from returning or getting worse.

Less well-known is how osteopaths can help with your nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems. If you’re suffering from migraines, painful periods and digestive disorders, we can help. Regular osteopathic treatment is also a very useful way to maintain and improve general health and prevent little niggles from developing into a full-blown injury.

We’re completely transparent about who we can help and to what extent. One of our values is we’re focused on giving you the right advice for your situation. If we believe Osteopathy is not appropriate and that you, ultimately, require further intervention, we will tell you.
